Honest software to replace cheater software.

Computers do not lie. So we are told. Here is an example demonstrating exactly opposite. Computer does what it is instructed to do. It has no notions of true or false or right or wrong. In this era of mass management of businesses, not just logistics, this event is a landmark to ponder over possibilities of mass deception by computers rather through computers. Blindly trusting results produced by computer without cross checking with human test must be deprecated. It must be mandatorily carried out frequently on random sample. When I say this I am not talking about emission control only. What if similar boosting effect is applied in a computer used in medical diagnostics?

Coming back to Volkswagen, does replacing the software solve the problem? Why cheater software was installed in the first place?

The obvious answer to second question is: because the vehicle did not meet emission norms, cheater software was installed. This begs the first question and answer would be emphatic NO.

If cheater software was suppressing the emission details, the vehicles are below standard. Rather the engines are not up to the mark. Would the next step would be replacement of Engine? I wonder if Volkswagen can afford that while remaining economically viable.

Most probably the Volkswagen may get away with this massive fraud. The new world order is that if you commit a fraud so big that it can upset the economy, it would be buried with little or no consequences. Remember Goldman Sachs’s billion dollar sub prime fraud………… et all.

I had always suspected something wrong with Volkswagen. In India, when they could not pick sale they started offering cars on interest free three years or more of equated monthly installments to boost sale and it did help it to boost sale. It was a desperate move, especially when none of other competitors followed suit or felt threatened by it.

Problem with deception is that in economics and commerce, once a person crosses that ethereal threshold, there can be no guessing how far it will go. Expect more skeletons to fall soon.

If I was a shareholder, I would have started to hedge by selling in money calls.  If you are a shareholder take your pick. All the best.
