India: a country of holidays welcomes 2016.

Bank Holidays 2016 analysed:

Thanks to the decision of 2nd and 4th Saturdays as Bank holidays from 01/09/2015, we’ve got a wonderful year 2016 ahead, as far as holidays are concerned.

Consisting of a mind boggling 96 holidays excluding the 3 which fall on Sunday.  Most surprisingly and luckily, no holiday falls any of the 24 Saturday offs.

These are the highlights of holidays in 2016…….

A. 4 consecutive holidays once and 3 consecutive holidays 5 times in the year.

March:

24/03-Dhulivandan

26/03-4th Saturday

27/03-Sunday

April:

08/04-Gudipadwa

09/04-2nd Saturday

10/04-Sunday

August:

13/08-2nd Saturday

14/08-Sunday

15/08-Independence Day

12/09-Bakri Eid

12/11-2nd Saturday

14/11-Guru Nanak Jayanti

B.  3 consecutive holidays with the help of 1 Casual Leave sandwiched between the 2 holidays is not a rare thing these days. ut 4 consecutive holidays twice and 5 consecutive holidays twice in an year with the help of only 1 Casual Leave in between is just a real bonus.

January:

C.  There are 5 Saturdays in Jan, Apr, Jul, Oct, Dec and 5 Sundays in Jan,May, Jul, Oct.

D. Following 3 holidays fall on Sunday ie wasted holidays.

30/10-Lakshmi Pujan

25/12-Christmas

E. A holiday on Monday gives a feeling of what we call as real bonus or “Paisa Vasool” holiday. It happens on 7 occasions:

07/03-Mahashivratri

15/08-Independence day

05/09-Ganesh Chaturthi

12/09-Bakri Eid

31/10-Deepawali Padwa

14/11-Guru Nanak Jayanti

12/12-Eid-e-Milad

F.  Banks are off on 2nd and 3rd Saturday of the month.

A holiday on 3rd Saturday gives 3 consecutive Saturday offs in the month. This occurs only once. On 21/05-Buddha Poornima

But no holiday on any 1st Saturday of any month.

Apart from above 96 holidays, every employee gets 7 days casual leave, 15 days privilege leave and also some days for sick leave. There are also local holidays announced by State Governments.
