Ubuntu One syncdaemon was working but was not syncing the files as the balloon message would keep on showing increasing number of files. First I had to install Ubuntu One GTK from software Manager as Xubuntu Raring Ringtail has no GUI interface. starting the GUI Ubuntu One I get this message:
“File Sync error. (auth failed (AUTH_FAILED))”
Solution:
Open Terminal (Control+Alt+T) and run:
u1sdtool -q; killall ubuntuone-login ubuntuone-preferences; sudo rm -rf ~/.local/share/ubuntuone rm -rf ~/.cache/ubuntuone rm -rf ~/.config/ubuntuone mv ~/Ubuntu\ One/ ~/Ubuntu\ One_old/
Now restart the Ubuntu One GUI from Applications>Settings. If its asks keyring password, enter the login password used to login the computer. If it asks to enter Ubuntu One password as new login, choose ‘I already have an account’ and enter Ubuntu One login password. Thereafter select folders to sync and it should work.
Note: Progress of Ubuntu One syncdaemon can be seen from terminal by using the command: “u1sdtool –current-transfers“.
All the best.

Thanks Bert for that additional input.

To fix AUTH_FAILED errors, I would first try to just re-establish the Ubuntu Single Signon (SSO) for Ubuntu One. You can do that by going to Passwords and Keys. and removing the Ubuntu One entry. Restarting the Ubuntu One sync daemon from System Settings will then prompt you for your Ubuntu One username and password again.
