Western Digital is considered to be the pioneer Hard Disk manufacturer. It is generally attributed to new technologies in the field of data storage media. Its hard disks were earlier not easily available in India. It appears, 2008 recession pushed it to explore Indian market which was hereto before saw the monopoly of Seagate, another manufacturer of Hard Disks. The truth is that perception is not reality. I also bought Western Digital hard disks, due to the perception that as innovator, it would be of good quality. But it is real pain at inappropriate places. All hard disks break down frequently. Alternative to Libre Office or Microsoft Word in Linux.
Finally a near alternative of Microsoft Office /Libre/Open etc. is available in Kingsoft Office which is available for all Debian based Distros like Ubuntu 13.04/12.10/12.04/Linux Mint 15/14/13. I have successfully installed it. It is also available in RPM package for Fedora and the like distros. The screen shot is on the left.

Alternative to Unity in Ubuntu Raring 13.04: Mate.
Unity sucks as usual. Ubuntu Raring Ringtail 13.04 does not work properly on older machines (e.g. AMD core 2 with 2GB ram and on-board graphics) any more. It installs alright but xWindow crashes. Ubuntu-Gnome also had the same problem. In such situation Xbuntu (Ubuntu with Xfce) is a better option and we can add ‘Mate’ as Desktop environment to make it even better. Mate is the new name for the classic Gnome 2.0 Desktop. Until 10.04 Ubuntu was shipped with Gnome 2.0 Desktop.
Ubuntu Precise Problem: White Screen of Death!
It is said that over a period of time two enemies start to resemble each other. Ubuntu Linux taking on Windows 8 with Unity has started to resemble the Windows. The famous Window’s blue screen of death and black screen of death has taken avatar in Ubuntu as White Screen of Death. Continue reading
Vodafone India shareholders and creditors would love to know this!
There seems to be serious problems in operations of Vodafone India. There are certain facts the Vodafone’s India operation that stakeholders would love to know. But I do not know if they will like what they read but I have to tell as a consumer for over a decade and an honest person. I am thinking how to inform them these vital facts about the financial health of Vodafone India. Administration or operational problems are first signs of financial trouble. Any way let me capitulate the facts then we will deal with the problem of communication:
1. It is now consumer unfriendly. A company which exploits or ignores its customers get a kick in the back from the customers, either when they least expect it or when they thought they least deserve it. Continue reading
