Why Human relationships turn sour?
Humanity exist in relationships. Civilization is a relationship. Howsoever we may crave, we can not exist without relationships. Relationship could be life long like marriage or as Parent or it could be sporadic like that with bus driver, Milkman or Postman.
In spite of such immense importance of relationships, relationships often fail. When we talk of relationships, marriage is unnecessarily notorious. Parents of grownups find their relationship with children turning sour. Friends turn foe. Siblings who grow up together and have decade of joint past do not see each other eye to eye, in later life. What happens?
Is it marriage?
Answer is emphatic no. Marriage may be a catalyst in some cases but it certainly is not the cause. Marriage do introduce new characters and ideas in the equation of relationship and may require adjustments but that is not the only cause. Continue reading
Gardening as a subject and as a hobby happens to be least popular. May be too plebeian. It also requires a regular commitment. Living in apartments amidst an ocean of polluting fumes, eclipsed in the nave of concrete jungle, we often do not miss the plants. Last year when I was in Bombay on several occasions, another congested and populous city, I realised how hideously un-green that city is. Air filled with sea moisture and obnoxious smells typical of closed places. Back in Delhi, I was glad that it looked like a big garden with roads. The pollution here seemed non-existent notwithstanding the fact that 20% of the city population has symptoms of asthma, at one time or another.
Coming back to gardening, it is awful that schools that waste so much time on science projects, laboratory experiments and cramming benefits of trees for environment besides moral science, show nothing about gardening. Continue reading
The most important person in the Universe
All relationships including romantic ones fail because of one single core issue i.e. deep rooted desire to dominate. We may believe in any God or may not believe at all but we practice one God i.e. ourselves. We are supreme. Our desires are foremost and most urgent. Others can wait or should wait. Can we at any given moment visualise that we are not the centre of the universe? Do we ever see any inter-connection? Continue reading
Parenting the greed
We the humans take great pride in declaring that we are rational beings, since the time of Aristotle. But not only he missed the truth but he left a legacy of understanding which has led generation after generation to be under this mistaken belief. The truth is that we can always act first on our whim and rationalize our conduct later.
As parents it is our duty to be role models for our children but we fail to lead the way to show them how to acquire new skills because we have ourselves lost the capacity to learn. All we know is how to operate in a same pattern every day and let money generate from this pattern. We are so blinded by this attraction for money that it seems to be the only purpose of existence. This greed becomes the anchor of psychological security.
In practice however it is the smartness to survive your changing friends and foes, in a greedy world really helps to keep you out of trouble.
