Libre/Kingsoft Office corrupt file read error!

Caption of LibreOfficeSince past about one year I had been using Kingsoft Office besides Libre Office and it has to be said that these remain minions before the might of word processing power of Microsoft Word. As far as smaller files are concerned Kingsoft Office is OK. But if file is large, say above 100 pages, it has problems. Limits of Libre office is slightly higher at 300 pages. However Kingsoft is a better previewer of .doc files. Libre Office distorts the preview of the files due to its lack of window fonts.
Both however have severe limitations about automated header, footer, indexes. And both ended up corrupting the files during manipulation of the fields/indexes.
What happened was that the program/app crashed and on restart it was unable to open/recover same file with the statement like ‘file error’ or ‘not the right file type’ leaving me with no option. Continue reading

Solution to LinuxMint 15 installation and slow graphics.

This computer had LinuxMint 13 Cinnamon i.e. Nadia installed and had a smooth run for almost an year. Suddenly Cinnamon crashed and x-window fell back upon classic genome 2.0. Instead of wasting time I decided to upgrade it to Olivia or Mint 15. Unfortunately there is no easy way to upgrade. Very unlike Ubuntu, in which if option is selected, update manager offers to upgrade. Now the option is to do it manually. Barring few problems this is how it was possible. Continue reading

Ubuntu married wrong girl.

A letter to Ubuntu:

“Ubuntu, your latest and young wife may be more socialite, may have smooth make up and may look sleek, but she is not we had expected. She may have great touch but that is not everything. If it was must that you marry this Unity girl, you should not have divorced your other loyal and devoted wives. Polygamy and polyandry is normal in your culture. While your other wives would not disturb each other, this envious Unity hardly let one or the other work alongside her. She sulks, she breakdowns and show no compatibility with elders. Your wife may impress young and teenagers with her ‘touch’ of class but it lacks reliability and your ‘class’. With this marriage, Ubuntu you look more like your sworn enemy Windows.” Continue reading

ipcinterface: 156 Deluge restart failed: Couldn’t listen on any:/.config/deluge/ipc/deluge-gtk: Cannot acquire lock.

DelugeBitTorrent is the program of choice for transferring large files between computers, especially on slow connections. Transmission is the official client with Ubuntu but it has its limitations e.g. separate encryption setting for each file. Deluge is the next client of choice. However after I installed Deluge, it failed to restart after a crash shut down. Clicking on icon produced no response. Continue reading
