Doesn’t she walk like empress? See the picture above.
For writing a sentence like one above, she has sent people of her state to prison and repeatedly summoned people from other states to police station in Bengal, even during Corona pandemic. Few in India’s history have been intoxicated by power the way Mamata has.
The elections in West Bengal have started and only four rounds have been sealed in ballot boxes rather EVM. four more rounds have yet to be voted but some things are too obvious. One is lack of any narrative by the Mamata Bandhopadhyay (anglicized Banerjee) who is ranting routinely as if she is in opposition. Her only strategy is to show off her so called broken leg and move around in a wheel chair like a mini car. Frankly, from here it looks ridiculous. Generally with injury in one foot, one does not jump on to wheel chair. But every one is not in politics as well.
Mamata Banerjee feels no obligation to explain her ten years in government by charting out the steps taken by her. Instead she is disclosing her GOTRA in public meeting which is anything but an election strategy and it is not unique as well. Rahul Gandhi has tried it in 2019 and it did not work or perhaps it did and nobody could notice it.
The body language of Mamata is not self assuring. She it too tense in the public meetings. She is also not arranging the mega rallies instead she is addressing small gatherings. This displays of lack of confidence that perhaps crowd will not gather. Actually the number of crowd even in small gathering is far from satisfactory. TV media is manipulating it but Youtubers show the reality.
Audio Leaks
This had been the fortnight of audio leaks. First her Election strategist Prashant Kishore, speaking to the ‘dedicated’ journalist group spill the beans on an Iphone-Clubhouse chat that Mamta is losing. He counted every group who was not voting for her. When chat leaked out, he went into fir fighting mode and shot out two interview to India-Today TV channels. It is the same group which was founded when others were closing newspapers during emergency in 1974-77. Another interview was repeated on Ajtak, the Hindi TV channel of same group.
In the interview, the best explanation he could come up was that BJP with 40% vote share, can not win more than 100 seats in State Legislature. The requirement is of about 147. But he forgot to tell that anti-incumbency means that the party in power is unpopular and therefore it is likely to lose votes. The Central forces are here to ensure that her goons do not threaten people, as they always manage.
Senility, Ambition Madness or what?
In the election campaign, Mamata has been behaving as if she is empress of Bengal and people from outside have come to displace her by force in which voters should come to her rescue. She again has no explanation as to what she did for people so that they may vote for her.
It however appears that Mamata will go down in the history of India as the most cunning, dubious, violent and corrupt dictatorial politician in India who hid her motives behind a cheap attire and footwear while her cronies unleashed a reign of terror on the people in general while plundering every resource meant for the people. In India where a lady is respected as motherly personality, she has poisoned that image for all times to come.
She gave call to Muslim votes/goons to attack the central police force. In the result her cronies could not capture booth but four persons were killed in police firing. In the phone conversation released today, Mamata wanted the bodies of those killed be carried and taken to village to village asking people to vote for her otherwise no Muslim will survive NRC and kept in Concentration camp.
These are desperate attempts even by the standards of Mamata. She knows that crowds are coming to her gatherings and for this reason she has desisted from holding rallies in bigger what to speak of massive grounds.
The result of 2nd May seems forgoing conclusion. The BJP won 18 Parliamentary seats in 2019 which translates into 120 legislative assemblies seats. Therefore it has step up very little. But the way Mamata has fallen behind, she may not be able to hold the magical number.
However the bigger question to be asked on 2nd May after election results are declared is this:
Whether Mamata can get away with challenging the federal structure of India? If she is spared, how will prolonged detention of Mehmooba Mufti in prison is justified as she had done exactly same thing in Jammu and Kashmir. She too called upon the people to wage war against State.
We will have to wait and see.
Well said
