When being liberal becomes illiberal.
This was my answer to the question: “Is tik tok destroying Indian culture?”
What is the culture?
If 9 people out of 10 do something stupid, then stupidness is the culture. Banning this or that is talibani attitude.
Why watch tiktok or install it at all. I haven’t watched it’s full advertisement on you tube even once. If you are watching it to the last, then you like it and it is your culture.
Problem is hypocrisy. You are moved by whatever is out there and having no control over your self, yet with an holier than thou attitude demand banning this or that.
No two human beings have equal taste or mind. May be some people enjoy prurient content. So be it. Why judge other people?
Having said that, I would like to disable it’s forced advertisement on me. If banning is bad so is forcing it through advertisement.
As regards the culture, please note that the zeal to maintain it led to 800 years of servitude of India as a nation. Those in power, thought they could impose culture with the help of barbarians. A contradiction of terms.
Why it has been collapsed by Quora?
It doesn’t matter. What is interesting is advocating free speech is against Quora policy. So being liberal is not being liberal. It is a strange time in which champagne socialist run social media and help muzzle free speech talking anything even remotely Chinese.
Though I had missed one point in above answer. Graphic depiction of violence and promotion of criminal act on tik tok is abetment of offence and is against the laws of India. It moderators do not bar such content from tik tok, it has to be banned for promoting crime.
