Linux

It started in the year 1981, when I was first introduced to computers and it basic language. But compiler was different in every computer and DOS had not yet arrived.  The institute teaching it was also full of people exercising their fundamental right and they had right answer for every wrong question. After pursuing for six months I lost interest and did not go for Pascal.

My first regular use of computer was in the year 1995 in fact for some reason I remember the date also. That was May 1995. I had borrowed an IBM PC-AT from a friend mainly to do spell check on my manuscript myself. However it eventually got stuck with me. We have come a long way since 1995.

I first tried Linux with Mandrake in the year 2001. That was my favorite comic character as well. However within a month the system crashed and I could not do anything to recover anything.

The second try was in the year 2003 with Debian followed by Knoppix. The worst problem with all these was that there was no support with HP 6L laser printer I was using and the internal fax card as well as Hp scanner. Similarly the package managers was not of much help. It was nearly impossible to resolve dependencies of new programmes. Therefore its use was confined to Browsing only.

I have again switched over to Ubuntu (10.04 Lucid)  in April 2010 and the improvements made in this version are remarkable. The documentation available on the net in this regard is also amazing. Installing the programs is possible on a fly.

However I intend to go deeper and learn it step by step from the point of an advanced user. That is what I am. Hence I am sharing this journey of learning Linux, under the category ‘Linux’ Best part of Linux is that once we know the way of doing a thing, it is not only simple but quick.

I give no reason for taking up this challenge. Just that I had to do it. But after several years I find windows like a huge truck/lorry furnished like Mercedes but crawling like a 1930 Ford. So I am stuck. But there are no regrets. Linux is getting better. In 2012 there is no room for windows except for an old guest Computer. Share my journey here.
